Dear Nuna CC Community,
Since the end of last season there has been a significant amount of work done by the committee to review our performances as a club last season and plan for next season and beyond. This has included a serious review of the player survey conducted at the end of last season where several areas of improvement, mainly around training and coaching were identified.
Before I advise these, I’d like to note that the committee for season 2017/18 is as follows:
President David Cowell
Vice President Kevin Rose’Meyer
Secretary Andrew Siebel
Treasurer Roger Harrison
Junior Manager Robert Nash
Social Secretary .
Grounds & Equip Mgr Scott O’Neill
Bar Manager David Mitchell
Bar Manager Paddy Mitchell
Delegate/Merchandise Derek Clark
General Committee Glen Mackie
General Committee Dan Smith
General Committee AJ Dissanayake
First and foremost, I wish to advise that the Club has decided not to continue with Buddy Mendis as our Coach/Professional Player. This was a very tough decision for us to make given the amazing results achieved by the Club whilst Buddy was here but we decided that our future, particularly with regard to training and coaching outcomes and junior development was best served by changing directions. Buddy leaves with our thanks and best wishes for the future.
As soon as this decision was made, we went into overdrive to finalise and formalise our structure for the coming season. I am delighted to announce the following appointments.
Senior Coach. Robin Ferdinands. Robin has played and held various fitness and coaching roles at Carlton Cricket Club (Premier League), Deepdene Bears Cricket Club (ECA), Donvale Cricket Club (ECA) and Glen Waverley Cricket Club (ECA). He has also played cricket as an overseas amateur in Lancashire and has worked with Cricket Victoria in number of roles including level 1 cricket coach program presenter, Milo In2Cricket area coordinator and U18 representative coach.
Rob is a Level 3 High Performance Cricket Coach and with a Physical Education degree (majors in Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics), he has an advanced understanding of skill acquisition, physical performance, game strategies and game scenarios. He joins us on a 2 year initial contract after a number of years away from cricket juggling his two children’s basketball pursuits with his wife Tracey but he now has time to continue his coaching career. He is genuinely excited by the challenge of developing the club’s leaders and establishing a more structured, development focused and enjoyable approach to club training, which will hopefully lead to sustained individual, team and club success.
Rob is also a qualified Life Coach and has a Graduate Diploma of Human Resource Management / Industrial Relations, which he has utilised extensively as a Change Management Consultant on transformational change projects. This experience will greatly assist us in improving how we communicate, consult, engage and educate our members, so we continue to improve and evolve as a club.
In his spare time, Rob is also training for his first ironman triathlon in December! Obviously, a sucker for punishment.
Please join me in welcoming Rob to the club and be open to the new way of doing things he will bring.
First XI Captain. Marc Lamont. Marc has been good enough to ‘step into the breach’ as First XI captain given that the role has been vacated. Of course you will all know that Marc captained the 1’s to three premierships in a row and is now tasked with ensuring we are very competitive back in Wilson Shield and that we get back into McIntosh Shield as soon as possible. This will be an exciting year for the First XI we believe as we will be injecting new talent both from a new players perspective and we plan to offer opportunities to some of our young guns to play First XI cricket.
Coaching Assistant and First XI Vice Captain: Udara Hettige. Udara had a great season in the First XI last season winning our batting and bowling averages and dominating McIntosh Shield grade bowling attacks. We are extending Udara’s role at the club to include working with Robin on practice management and helping all players improve their cricket.
There are plenty of jobs still to be done and key roles to fill such as Social Secretary and catering manager. If anyone is able to help in any way, please let me know.
Our off-season planning is continuing, our cricket nets are being redeveloped and we will announce details of pre-season training as well as a ‘Meet the Coach’ event in the near future.
