Nunawading Cricket Club ‘Winter Academy’, expressions of interest sought

Dear Nunawading CC players, parents and friends,

In our ongoing development plans to be a progressive and successful community sporting organisation, we are planning on holding a Winter Cricket Academy. The ‘Nunawading Academy’ is open to all, juniors and senior players of all ages and abilities and will consist of 6-8 sessions (time to be confirmed but possibly Tuesday nights from 6:00 pm till 7:30/8:00 pm) based at a combination of at Nuna (in the pavilion/social rooms) and an indoor cricket centre.

Leigh Callander, Cricket Australia Level 3 accredited coach, ex Nuna CC and Bayswater Park CC coach and current Nuna CC Premiership player will be the course leader and facilitator. Senior Nunawading players including Buddy Mendis, Trent Batchelor (both Nuna CC First XI Premiership players and average winners), Derek Clark and David Cowell will play leading roles in the delivery of the sessions.

The proposed breakdown of the program follows:

Session 1:

Personal preparation (training, match day routine, concentration, fitness, working as a team, batting selfishly etc), goal setting, visualisation, relaxation, individual strength lists, standards of performance, benefits of perseverance etc

Session 2:

Batting techniques. e.g. survival, attacking, batting in partnerships, running between wicket, turn over the strike, quick singles etc

Session 3:

Bowling techniques. e.g off stump bowling, batter weaknesses, bowling in partnerships, run up, delivery stride, action improvements etc

Session 4:

Fielding technique (attacking and defensive fielding, backing up, throwing, catching)

Session 5:

Captaincy and leadership. Managing the field (responding to certain situations, setting a field, changing bowlers, bowling in partnerships, pressure fielding, talking, getting into batsmens’ heads etc). Leading by example, giving players opportunity, exploiting strengths, developing areas for improvement, positive communication, analyse strengths and weaknesses of opposition, team game plans, partnership and team requirements, new ball strategies, restriction strategies, wicket taking strategies, limitation cricket

Session 6:

Wicket keeping (stance, catching, keeping to slow bowlers, keeping to quick bowlers, moving legs etc)

Sessions 7 and 8:

Game scenarios to work put all the skills into play.

All juniors attending will be allocated a Nunawading CC senior ‘mentor’. This person will maintain an ongoing role in the cricket development of each junior player throughout the season.

There will be a cost, estimated at $100 – $150 per person to cover costs of hiring coaches and nets etc.

Guest speakers, specialist coaches and senior Nunawading players will all be part of the delivery of the program.

The program will run somewhere in the June – end August timeframe. If we get a quick sufficient expression of interest, we can start soon.

Can you please reply to this email as soon as possible if you are interested in participating or contact David Cowell on 0438 569822 or dgcowell for further details.

We need enough interest to justify the time and effort to develop and run the course.
