Nunawading moves to A Grade from Wilson Shield

The committee made a key decision to request the BHRDCA to move the First XI from Wilson Shield down to A Grade recently and the association have obliged.

This decision was not made lightly and reflects the recent history of the club. Key determinants in this decision were:

1. The club has expended many thousands of dollars over the last 10 years or so on external players. There have been some exceptions but generally the excercise has failed with many players not as successful as we would like and quickly moving on.
2. The First XI has not played finals in Wilson Shield since relegation from McIntosh Shield approx 10 years ago, despite the influx of paid players
3. Players canvassed from this year’s First XI support this move

The committee believe that it is important that the First XI are competitive, regardless of the grade they play and that, considering the large personnel changes from last year, a move down to A Grade would provide the chance for the First XI to play finals and then push back up the grades at the appropriate time.

The committee are working hard to grow the junior section of the club and hope that the fruits of this labour will soon be evident. Hopefully some current junior players will make their debut in the seniors this season.
