Most older Nunawading players will remember fondly the career of Life Member, Ian Rowe. Ian is regarded as the finest spin bowler to ever wear the purple and gold and his statistics bear witness to this fact. He took 476 First XI wickets at 10.2 with 5 or more wickets on 32 occasions and a career best 9/44 including taking 50 wickets at 8.56 in 60-61 and winning the TA Reeves Trophy 1970-71. Ian played in five First XI Premierships and was also Treasurer for 8 years.
Ian and his wife Wendy have a daughter Lyn, who was a ‘thalidomide baby’ and born without arms or legs. On Saturday June 25, 2011, a series of articles appeared in the Herald Sun discussing their family situation and a pending class action legal suit for damages. The article appears in the following link:
The Club wishes Lyn, Ian and Wendy all the best.
